ST. CATHARINES – The Cambridge minor bantam MD Hawks had little competition to win the John McDonald Memorial Tournament in St. Catharines.

A balanced attack from all three lines and aggressive defence throughout the tournament proved to be too much for the competition as the Hawks went undefeated in five games.

Cambridge started round-robin play against the Brampton Bulldogs with an exciting 4-3 win, with the winning goal coming with just over a minute left in the game.

Little did the Hawks know at the time, how critical that extra point would be to ensure they advanced in the tournament.

The Hawks finished off round robin play with a 7-1 win over the Hamilton Huskies and a 6-2 win over the London Bandits, giving them a tidy 3-0 record and sending them into the semifinals.

Continuing their winning streak, the Hawks dictated play in the semis and beat the Brantford 99ers 4-1.

Cambridge was firing on all cylinders in the final against the West London Hawks, jumping out to a 3-0 lead. Both teams added a goal, but Cambridge took the battle of the birds with a 4-2 win.

CAMBRIDGE – The Cambridge minor bantam MD Hawks won five straight games to take the championship title in the Dan Pulham Memorial Tournament in London.

The Hawks started off the tournament with a 3-2 win over the Whitby Wildcats, before another 3-2 victory over London Bandits Black.

Cambridge continued their winning ways in the round robin, doubling the Waterloo Wolves 4-2 and shutting out London Bandits Orange 5-0 to advance to the tournament finals.

The Hawks faced London Bandits Orange once again and with something on the line, the Bandits had a lot more fight in them.

The game remained tied 1-1 heading into the third period before the Hawks proved to be too strong and won 3-1.

BRANTFORD – The Cambridge minor bantam MD Hawks celebrated their third tournament win this season at the Wayne Gretzky International Tournament in Brantford.

The Hawks went undefeated in six games, opening the tournament with a tough 3-1 win against the London Nationals. Cambridge continued their winning streak against the Hamilton Huskies with a 3-1 win, before putting the Brampton Bulldogs in the doghouse with a 7-1 victory.

In the final round robin game, the Hawks tied Halton Hills Thunder 5-5.

In the semifinal, the Hawks faced the London Nationals again and behind some tremendous goaltending triumphed with a 1-0 win.

The final game was a nail biter against the Brantford 99ers, who took a 1-0 lead midway through the second period.

The Hawks showed resiliency though and fought back with a pair of goals in the third period and held on for a 2-1 win.
