This Saturday morning the Novice Semi-finalists competed to enter the finals.
The first match was 1 versus 4, Flyers against the Leafs. It was the Leafs taking the lead at the end of the first period with a goal by #3 Jesse. The Leaf’s went up 2-0 with a early second period goal by #5 Connor (assisted by #3 Jesse). The rest of the second period was filled with action but no results on the scoreboard. In the third the Leafs went up 3-0 with a goal by #3 Jesse. The Flyers were pressing to get on the scoreboard and managed to bank a goal mid-way in the third by #16 Michael. With time against them the Flyers pressing to the net they scored their second goal with 9 seconds left. The effort was credited to #4 Brett. After resetting the clock for 9 seconds and the Flyer net empty the six attackers made a last charge to the Leaf net. It was the Leafs successfully defending their net in the dying seconds. The Leafs earned the win and in the finals!
In semi-final game 2, the 2 vs 3, was Penguins against the Bruins. The Bruins got on the scoreboard first with the only goal in the first period by #30 Anthony. In the second period the Bruins went up 2-0 with a goal by #15 Brad (assisted by #14 Dre). However, the Penguins answered late in the second with two goals by #11 Bryce. The second period ended in a 2-2 tie. The third was end to end action. The Bruin’s #14 Dre scored to go ahead by one. However, the Penguins quickly answered with a goal by #6 Eric. A minute later the Bruins #12 Nick (assisted by #14 Dre) brought their team back up by one. Under pressure and time running out the Bruins #14 Dre carried the puck into the Penguins end and banked the insurance goal taking the Bruins up by two with 36 seconds remaining. The Penguins continued their strong effort to the end but weren’t able to even the score. The Bruin’s moved to the Finals.
The Novice Championship match will showcase the Leafs and Bruins.
The Consolation match saw practice teams Habs and Stars meet. The Stars won 4-1 with goals by #11 Ethan (2) and #5 Nathan, #16 Owen. It was #9 Cole scoring for the Habs.
