Christmas Tournament Recap
The 2012 Major Atom Christmas tournament has come to close and has seen some great hockey over the past few days, congratulations to all the teams, players and coaches for working hard and playing some great hockey, the results of the games have all been close.

Semifinal games saw the Flyers move to the finals with a 5-0 win over the Bruins. The Penguins and Senators were engaged in a hotly contested game that was decided with an overtime goal to clinch a position in the finals for the Penguins.

The finals proved to be a dramatic event as well with the Flyers pulling out front in the first period. In the second period the Flyers scored their second unanswered goal very early in the period and held their lead through the second and into the third. The third period ticked away, it was a see-saw battle with back and forth puck control but neither team were able to put one in the net; that is until the time elapsed to one minute and forty seconds left in the third period where the stick-to-itiveness & perseverance of the Penguins paid off with a goal to bring them to within one. As time ticked away it looked like the Flyers might hold on to the lead but the Penguins had other plans and put the pressure on late in the period and scored their second goal to tie it up at two each with only twenty seconds left in the period sending the game to overtime. The first, second and third overtime periods were hard fought with chances on both sides but bore no results. In the fourth overtime period with the teams playing two on two, with the puck moving back and forth to both sides the Flyers had a mid-period breakout and scored to end the game in dramatic fashion.

Both teams should be proud of the way they played, they fought hard and kept their focus  and the game could have easily gone either way which is consistent with how the season has gone, any team has the potential to win over anyone else at any time.

Congratulations again to all the teams for playing great hockey and congratulations to the Flyers for being the 2012 Christmas tournament champs.
