Good morning all!
The first day of the Round Robin is
behind us. The Leafs have played their 2 games and are waiting to
see how the last 2 games between the 4 remaining teams shake out
later this evening.
The results of Day One were:
B1 - Habs (2) Leafs (2)
B2 - Flyers (1) Pens (5)
B3 - Leafs (2) Caps (2)
I wanted to use this opportunity to clear a few things up as the round robin (RR) will conclude tonight.
The online system does not determine or seed teams based on the same criteria the Association uses for the Christmas Tournament. It appears that the hosting system will seed tied teams solely based on goals for (GF) percentages (then maybe alphabetically after that?). With such a short RR, the Association employs a model that utilizes a long list of criteria that takes into account:
- Head to Head game results between the tied teams during the RR,
- Most wins during the RR,
- Best (highest number) goal average (GF/(GF+GA)) during the RR
- Least Penalty Minutes through the RR
- Team that scored first during the head to head games between tied teams during the RR
- Coin toss
The factors I have described above are a short high level condensing of the rules outlined in the model. They are for illustration purposes to show that we cannot simply go on the GF seeding that the website provides. The model has an even longer outline for breaking a 3 way tie!
Please be patient - wait for the update on the website. I will communicate with coaches as soon as we know which 4 teams advance and they may actually reach out to you before the Office updates the schedule.
Thanks,
Eric
