Hello Everyone!
Welcome to CMHA Peewee Division for 2016-2017 Season! I wanted to take the time to write a small article with a brief outline of what to expect this coming season and to introduce myself to everyone!
My Name is Sharlie Black, this is my 14th year Convening for CMHA. I Convened my youngest son from Novice to his 2nd year of Midget 2. I then came down to Minor Atom 2 years ago with the 2005's and have moved up with them ever since.
You will see me at all the games and hanging around the practices! Please do not hesitate to say hi and introduce yourself!
Here is some information on the up coming season.....
Time Clocks & Score Keepers - all home teams will require volunteers to run the time clock and fill out the Score Sheet. I have written 2 emails now concerning the clocks at Karl Homuth Arena. I know they have ordered in replacement bulbs so we will be able to read what the time actually is....I am hoping this does not continue on for any length of time and turns into a how many people light bulb joke.......in the meantime Please perceiver, I am on this.
3 Penalty Rule - there is a 3 penalty rule for every player in CMHA during a game. If a player receives a 3rd penalty they are ejected for the remainder of the game. I have emailed the Executive for clarification if the said player is to leave immediately and another player is to serve the 3rd penalty in their place or if they are to serve the 3rd penalty then leave the game at the end of the 3 minutes.
House Select - As all of you know, we have two House Select teams this year. Minor and Major Peewee. The House Select team process is very difficult for all Coaches involved. This year, tryouts are by invitation only. Each Coach will submit player names to each of the Select coaches, including their top choices for goalies. These lists will remain confidential. The Select Coaches have been out during games and practices already evaluating players. The Select Coaches will then call players they intend to invite to the tryouts.
Please remember, these are extremely difficult decisions these Coaches have to make and they are not taken lightly. I expect the full cooperation of all our Peewee parents when it comes to the House Select process. Please do not harass your son/daughter's House League Coach to see whether or not their name was on the list and please do not harass the House Select Coach on why he did not pick your son/daughter for the team. The Coaches are volunteers who are just trying to make the players learn and enjoy this amazing game of Hockey! Let's face it, this may be their only "NHL"!!! Let's keep them smiling!
Attendance - once House Select starts all House League Coaches will make note of attendance. House League Comes First! Unless House Select Players are ill or have previously reported an upcoming absence they must attend their house league games and practises. In the event a game/practice is missed, the House Select Coach will be notified and the player will not be able to attend the scheduled House Select event that day. If there is consistent absences from House League scheduled practices/games it could lead to suspensions from the House Select Team.
Player Movement - as you know it can be very difficult to select fair/equal teams at the beginning of the year. After the teams all play each other once, (November 20th weekend) I will meet with all the Peewee Coaches to discuss how the teams are fairing against each other. If we need to go a couple more games to see, we will. The first few games of the season are difficult to use for comparison with short benches due to September holidays and Thanksgiving. If some teams need a bit of "tweaking", and the
Coaches agree, player movement will occur.
Please do not order any names on the jerseys until we have made it clear no player movement will take place.
Christmas Tournament - CMHA has a Christmas Tournament which runs
Dec 27th to the 30th every year. With the busy holiday season, many may be absent. Please make sure you inform your Coaches of your absence. Especially if you are the Goalie for the team. We will have to make arrangements for a Major Atom Goalie to come up and play in your place.
