Canadian Tire

Canadian Tire Corp was established in 1922 by J.W. and A.J. Billes. They purchased Hamilton Tire and Garage LTD on Gerald and Hamilton Streets in Toronto. In 1923 they sold Hamilton Tire and Garage LTD and moved to Yonge and Gould under the name Canadian Tire Corporation. Their first catalogue was published in 1928. In 1938 the innovative idea of clerks on rollerskates was initialized. The clerks were able to race to fill orders! In 1958 the first gas bar opens on the corner of Yonge and Church. In 1963 the first Canadian Tire Distribution center opened on Sheppard Ave in Toronto. 1972 marked the 50 year anniversary of the first Canadian Tire Store opening and the very first store opened in Saskatchewan. ×
