Cambridge Minor Atom Select Undefeated in Toronto Tournament
On the weekend of January 21st, the Minor Atom Select Hornets travelled to Toronto to compete in the Amesbury Select Winter Classic.
On Friday morning the Hornets faced the North Toronto Brigade, and came out strong taking a 3-2 victory.  Continuing their strength later in the afternoon, they took on the Richmond Hill Stars with a smashing 6-2 victory.  Saturday evening the boys worked hard and handed the Warren Park Eagles a 5-3 loss.  Goaltenders Brodie Merritt and Ben Lane were solid in goal giving the team a chance to win every game.  Going undefeated in round robin play, the Hornets finished first and guaranteed themselves a spot in the championship game.

The final game was a real team effort and was once again against the North Toronto Brigade.  Scott Hewitt opened the scoring early in the first with assists from Kyle Yetman and Josh Grasso; minutes later Christian Ferraro put one in the net off of a feed from Chris Skilton.  After giving two goals back Christian Connors took back the lead by scoring off of a pass from Skilton. Then to finish off the second period Brandon Gawel buried one off of passes from Joel Sindle and Derick DaSilva.  To start the third period, Gawel once again teamed up with Sindle to score his second of the game. The Hornets hung on to win the Championship game 5-4.  Extremely strong defensive play throughout the entire tournament was shown by Thomas Matekovic, Riley Burr, Gregory Thomas, and Brandon Gaudet.

Congratulations to the Cambridge Novice Select Hawks for a very well-deserved win.  You should be proud of the way you represented your city!
