Hawks lose heartbreaker in bid for Gold, Tuesday February, 25 2013
After being on the winning side of their previous three tournament finals, the Cambridge minor atom MD Hawks came up just short in their fourth, losing 3-2 in triple overtime in the final to the Stittsville Rams in the North York tournament.

Both the Hawks and their opponents entered the A level tournament finals undefeated. Cambridge opened the scoring on a goal from Anthony Duarte, assisted by Braeden Tavares, but Stittsville tied the score just seconds later. Cambridge again took the lead on a goal from Matthew Mueller, with Nic Lirette and Ethan Gill drawing assists. It didn’t take long once again for Stittsville to equal the score and send the game to overtime. The overtime had the teams playing 4-on-4, 3-on-3 and 2-on-2 until the Rams scored on a power play with the teams playing 3-on-2. Hawks goaltender Ashton Moreira was outstanding in the final. Cambridge got to the finals by sweeping through the round robin, beating the Osgoode Rideau Rams 4-0, host North York Knights 7-2 and the Lorne Park Ojibwa 7-1. Round-robin scoring was led by Mueller with four goals, Lirette and Gill had three each, Xavier Moura, Matthew Cummings and Zach Schneider had two goals, and Gillis Haskell and Jason Green had one each. Assists went to Mueller (5), Lirette (4), Tyler Avelar (4), Moura (3), Duarte (2), Haskell (2), Liam McGinnis (2), Gill, Dylan Farrow, Justin Luis and Kaiden Gignac. In the semifinals, backed by the superb goaltending of Benjamin Bates, Cambridge pulled away from the Richmond Hill Stars in a 5-2 victory. Schneider led the scoring with a hat trick, with Haskell and Mueller adding singles. Assists went to Haskell (2), Lirette, Gill, Schneider, Duarte and Green.
