Hornets ready to weather the Storm.......
Hey guys, just wanted to send a quick note about the Ancaster game & some thoughts moving forward.  We had many kids in the dressing room very upset with our loss last night. It is the first time I saw some tears and some players feeling down.  Although I never like seeing kids upset over a game I did appreciate the level of emotion, losing is not fun and we can all agree we have gone on a little skid lately after a very promising start.

The select program primarily is meant for development and extra ice time with kids of same talent.

Please remind your kids that many of the teams we play start over a month before we do and in some cases only play together and are not part of a house league like our crew. Some of these teams draw from a huge talent base of kids where Cambridge is split and for all intensive reasons only share 2/3 of the available kids due to 2 separate leagues in our already small city. Ancaster practises twice a week and has 1-2 games a week all together starting games early October.

That is tough to compete against when our guys split time between select and HL where they play multiple positions and are limited to what CMHA allows us as a select team.

I felt we were in that game right up until the last few minutes where the wheels fell off. LOL. I am confident we will find ourselves winning our share of games this year. I do not measure success by the score but our effort and focus.

We will keep working and hope we can be rewarded soon. Starting Jan every game is a tryout for MD, notes will be kept on each players performance and used to pick our MD team in the fall.

Things we have to improve on are puck confidence, decision making, follow game plan. I can't count how many times we had control of the puck just to give it away. That huge ice did not help us.

The coaches and myself will provide a mid-season report card for each player outlining strengths and weakness. We will challenge kids Friday to sting the Storm and shoot down the Snipers on Sunday.

I know the kids desperately want a win for their coaches, parents and team mates. Please remind them that we have already won by being together, getting the opportunity to travel and develop friendships that will last a lifetime. That is the most important victory to me.

Kind regards,

Jason Moon
