THE HORNETS ARE HARD AT WORK !!!!!
The Cambridge Hornets Atom Select have been hard at work during the first month of this young season too find there swagger. After a rough start in Georgetown with no practices going into that game it has been all uphill since. On Nov. 4th we hit the ice for our first official practice and the kids went right to work to rebound from our trip to Georgetown. That same day we had our first Parent information meeting and adopted our Team dress code.

With 2 practices under our belts on Saturday Nov. 10th we had our first official Home game against the Burlington Bulldogs at The Cambridge Centre. The kids showed up to the rink looking first class in there black dress shirts, dress pants, dress shoes and white ties ready to represent Cambridge and CMHA. After getting a grip on how hard they will have to work to have a successful season, the Hornets came flying out of the gate and put alot of pressure on the Bulldogs keeping them on there heels for the entire 1st period. On a couple occasions the Bulldogs did swarm our goal mouth but Nathan Butler weathered the storm with some great saves and allowed the Hornets to regroup and get the puck back down to the Bulldogs end. Early into the 2nd period Mikka Rajamaki put the Hornets on the board to give us a 1-0 lead. For the rest of the 2nd period our Hornets pressured the Bulldogs in there zone with many good scoring chances but just couldn`t find the back of the net.

Early into the 3rd period the Bulldogs came to life and and had 3 to 4 great scoring chances but Alex Stewart stood up to the challenge to keep the puck out of our net with some great saves of his own. The Hornets again came to life and pressured Burlington continuously until the 4 minute mark when the Bulldogs tied the game on a questionable goal that Alex clearly had covered up. Only a minute after that the Bulldogs went up 2-1 and for the first time in the game the Hornets were now on there heels. All this did was show the amazing character of these kids as they went back to work and hammered the Bulldogs with countless pressure and good scoring chances. With approx. 1 and a half minutes to go we pulled our goalie in favour of the extra attacker. On atleast 5 different occasions we thought we had the game tied, accept for some acrobatic goaltending at the other end kept the score 2-1 Bulldogs at the final buzzer.

It was a great game to be apart of, and the coaching staff and myself were thrilled with the way our kids worked and how well they played. Great job Hornets !!!
