Hard Work Helps Hornets Rebound From Loss To Kitchener
Saturday November 24th the Atom Select Hornets lost a hard fought battle 4-2 to the Atom Select Rangers from Kitchener. But it wasn't without some bright moments for our Hornets. We had stellar goaltending from Alex Stewart and Nathan Butler, more Bobby Orr like rushes from Riley Silva resulting in one of our 2 goals, Cole Mitchell playing a stellar 2 way game at center, as well as some very hard work from the rest of this amazing group of hockey players.

At the end of our game with Kitchener we were able to come together as a group and see where we need to improve our game, with a game against St. Catherines in there barn 2 weeks away. That Sunday morning at 7am the kids were back on the ice for a high tempo practice that put alot of emphasis on positional play and team defence in our own end as well making and receiving passes on the fly and keeping our feet moving.
November 29th the Hornets were back to work with a hard hour of Power Skating. They all pushed hard to improve on there skating skills and conditioning while keeping an eye on December 8th in St. Catherines. Saturday December 1st the Hornets got together at the Cambridge Center for a game of Inter Squad Shinny. Myself, Coach Luis and Coach Ed all suited up and joined the hornets for an hour of fun and hard work. Then with 3 practices before St.Catherines starting with Sunday morning, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, the Hornets were back to the grindstone going through there paces and working on what we had to improve upon. Saturday December 8th our Hornets showed up in St.Catherines with a new found swagger and determination as they went right to work and completely dominated every aspect of there game for the first 2 periods. At the end of the 2nd period St.Catherines were able to still be in our game trailing just 1-0 despite being out played, out chanced but most importantly out worked by our Hornets. As the 3rd period began our kids started right where they left off at the end of the 2nd, they forchecked hard, the defence stood tall and prevented the oppostion from getting any momentum, and finally with just 3 and a half minutes to go the Hornets broke the game open with 3 more goals in those dying minutes to finish up with a 4-0 win. Though our goaltenders did not have a busy night they made saves when called upon, and kept our team swagger in tact. Our 6 defencemen played there best games of this young season so far, and our forwards were all spectacular. Ryan Hammer and Alex Haskill each had a goal and a helper, Issac Juneau and Cole Mitchell both had tallies, while Nathan Galvao with 2, Mikka Rajamaki, Vince Nguyen, Brandon Smith all had helpers. This was a complete team game played by our Hornets, everyone was a star on this evening, myself and the rest of the coaching staff could not have been more proud of all of the kids. After the game Mikka Rajamaki hit the music and Coach Ed, Andre, Luis and myself all danced to Gangnam Style in the room as part of deal made with the kids before the game. The kids are much better hockey players then we are dancers, that is for sure. As a team we then hit Montanas for a post game team supper, while us coaches proudly conversed over our teams improvements, the kids had some team bonding time. Now we get ready for the Rangers of Kitchener as we look to get some revenge from November 24th. Great job so far Hornets !!!!
