Shutting out the Competition
The Hawks welcomed the Waterloo Wolves to Dickson Arena on Saturday night.

Aidan Bryans had the start in net, and would shut-out the wolves, helping the Hawks to a 6-0 victory. The Hawks played a strong game from start to finish, from one end of the ice to the other.  Alex Deeb got the Hawks on the board first with the assist from Nolan Branco and Liam Westwood.  Three minutes later, Branco got another goal for the Hawks with the assist to Alex Deeb and Justin Vandervelde.

The Wolves were able to hold the Hawks to just one goal in the second period.  Andrew Corbeil and Alex Hammer got the assist on Branco’s second goal of the game.

In the third period, the Hawks kept up the pace with goals from Trenten Gillies with a pass from Carter Whissell.  Deeb got his second goal of the game thanks to Vandervelde and Branco, and Ryland MacPherson finished it off for the Hawks with a pass from Jackson Kent.

Kent also played a strong role defensively, laying his body on the line to block shots.  Cameron Koehler and Liam Westwood also threw their body in front of the puck to help the Hawks to the shut-out.  Ben McGowan and Luke McConnell were strong on the blue line again, keeping the puck in the offensive zone and taking hard shots on net.

On the penalty kill, Ben Hedges and Connor Gignac pushed the pace while all of the Hawks skated hard and got the puck out of their end and down the ice.  The Hawks were focussed in every aspect tonight and they were rewarded.
