Vying for Third
The Hawks welcomed Wolves to Dickson Arena on Saturday afternoon.  The Wolves satone point ahead of the Hawks in the Playoff standings.  A win in this game would have guaranteed the Hawks a third place finish.

The Hawks came out slow in the first two periods, but were able to keep the Wolves off the board.  This was largely in part to goaltending by Blake Fletcher who stopped 22 shots before letting the first one in for the Wolves with one minute left to play in the second period.  The Wolves scored a second goal 40 seconds later.  The Hawks were outshot 25-8 at the end of two periods.

The Hawks rallied back in the Third period and came on strong as they often do.  The Hawks scored three goals, all within a minute of the other.  First, Carter Whissell got the Hawks going with the assist from Andrew Corbeil.  Connor Gignac scored second for the Hawks, unassisted, and Justin Vandervelde gave the Hawks the lead with an unassisted goal.

With a man in the box, the Wolves were able to capitalize and scored a power play goal to tie the game up.  Despite best efforts, the Hawks weren’t able to do any more damage and ended with the one point.
