HAWKS Fall To Wolves to End the Season
I'm not too sure how to even start this article.  To say I won't be seeing any more of my favourite hockey team play this season would be an understatement.

Today our beloved HAWKS fell 3-0 to the Waterloo Wolves and ended any hopes of making it through to the finals as the Wolves defeated the HAWKS 2 straight in semi final action.  Although it was very hard to get a comment from head coach Craig McLaren about his thoughts on the X's and O's on the game he did offer this.  "I won't get into the specifics of the game and my thoughts as to why we lost.  What I will say is that I am extremely proud of my boys!  They worked their butts off all season.  They put their trust in the coaching staff and we were able to lead a great group of hockey players.  To be totally honest, I had a hard time in the room afterwards when I had to address the kids.  As much as I hate to lose, the reason it was hard for me to address the team wasn't about losing.  Sure I had aspirations of making the league final and moving on the the Provincial final - who wouldn't?  Today after the game the words that I really couldn't choke out were just how PROUD I was of our team.  Parents, as I am sure it goes without saying, should be VERY proud of their son's for the season they just had.  Our boys' were pushed hard by the coaching staff and for the most part they worked their butts off this season.  There was a HUGE learning curve for these boys over the last two seasons and they took that challenge head on.  I only hope that the boys realize how far they have come over the last two seasons.  To go from 11th out of 12 the season before and finish in 4th this year is definitely something to be proud of.  I loved coaching this group of kids and feel honoured to have been a part of this team."

Unfortunately by the time I got down to speak with the coaches the balance of the staff had already left and were not available for comment.  What's next for these HAWKS??  "At this point who knows.  I am sure our boys will go off and enjoy their summer routines and come the fall I am sure their efforts this season will payoff in whatever tryouts they attend.  I am certain that at some point this group of 17 will be split up whether its players making teams they tryout for, maybe some families move away but I hope that over the course of their minor hockey days they will always look back on the season they had playing minor peewee MD for the Hawks.  I hope they realized what they accomplished during this season as well as some of the really cool experiences they had."

Well folks, I have truly had an awesome season covering the HAWKS.  I hope all of you have a safe and happy summer and thank you very much for your dedication to these articles!  (HSN from the HAWKS' Nest)

HAWKS' Chirps

- one warning...if you are a grilled cheese sandwich stay out of Joanne Hammer's kitchen!!!  God help that sandwich!!!

- ummmm so Evan Lahey left the rink on Wednesday with one boot?? YUP!!  Word is Sean Francoz stole the other one!!

- Sorry to inform you Maryann but "shots on net" is actually Coach Craig's line!  LOL!!

- Hopefully Rob Lahey will bring his guitar to the year end party and sing us his chart topping song and serenade Coach Craig once again!

- been a great year poking fun at muscle-man, Nelson Pimentel, did a great job on the bench!

- chirp of the year...turns out team mom Beth Lennox had a touch of narcolepsy in her earlier days!  In order to combat this condition, apparently Dr. Lennox - with longer hair in those days - would take a few strands of hair and close the window on them.  In the event of dozing off while driving, the blonde tussles caught in the window would immediately wake her and serve as a reminder that she was to wake up and keep her focus on the open road!  Hope we kept you awake this season!!  Haha!!

- p.s. - pertaining to the chirp above...thanks Peter!!
