Weekend Split
It felt like forever but finally the season begun for the Atom Hawks Saturday. The season started against a tough Caledon Squad followed by a clash with the eager Centre Wellington Fusion. Read more below for the game summaries from each game.

Saturday night the puck officially dropped and Cambridge came out early with an opening goal from Cameron Squirrell on a rebound of a Travis Nederpelt shot to take the lead 1-0. Caledon fought back and scored 2 goals to lead after one period 2-1. Despite some great goaltending from Ryan Kilpatrick, the Caledon team was relentless and fired in 4 more in the second. Zachary Dolson sprung loose and buried a breakaway to cut the lead to 6-2 but that was as close as the hawks could get as Caledon scored 3 more in the third despite more strong goaltending from Colin Matheson. Make the final 9-2 for Caledon.

In a relatively short turn around time, the hawks were back on the ice in Fergus less than 24 hours later to take on centre wellington.  Once again, a minute into the game, Squirrell got the hawks on the board with Nederpelt and Frederick Law drawing assists. The lead held until midway through the 2nd period where Fergus tied the game 1-1 with a breakaway goal. But the Hawks struck right back as Dolson fired a shot in the slot that found its way in the net and the score was 2-1. The third period was a hard fought period with chances going both ways but no goals were scored. In the end, the Hawks prevailed 2-1.
It was a great team effort as every player played with intensity every shift. The forwards played hard and created many opportunties and the defense was stingy and held the shots in check. With the backing of 2 great goalie performances by Kilpatrick and Connor Favetta, the first win for the Hawks is in the books.

Great job Hawks !!
