Hard Fought Weekend
Another round of weekend games for our Hawks are in the books. Despite not coming out on the winning end of each game, the team showed a lot of heart and battled each game. See below for game summaries.

Saturday Night, the Hawks hosted the Brantford 99ers. The teams both came out hard and were ready for a battle.
Cambridge opened the scoring for the third straight game, when Travis Nederpelt put home his first of the select campaign. Assists going to Cameron Squirrell and Frederick Law.
Brantford came back 3 minutes later and tied the game 1-1 and that's where the period ended. Shots were Brantford 10 with Cambridge tallying 5, strong goaltending from Colin Matheson held the Hawks in.
The second period was back and forth with Brantford taking a 2-1 lead, with the Hawks tying it on an unassisted goal from Matthew Burtt, his first of the select season. Brantford regained the advantage before the period end and led 3-2 going into the final period. Shots in period 2 were 8-7 in favor of Brantford.
The third period, Brantford scored 2 quick goals before Nederpelt scored his second of the game from Squirrell and the lead was cut to 5-3. Despite solid goaltending from Connor Favetta, Brantford scored 2 more goals late with a late Hawk goal from NIcholas Silva, his first of the select year, and the game finished 7-4.

Sunday, The Hawks looked for revenge on a very tough Caledon squad. Despite the very quick turnaround (2 hours), the team was ready to play after their houseleague games.
The first shift was dominated by Hawks but a crossbar denied the streak of opening goals for Cambridge. Caledon then struck for 4 quick goals in a span of 5 minutes to lead 4-0 after the first period. Credit to our Hawk team, they didn't give up. A pep talk at the period break seemed to spur them on as they battled with Caledon with chances going both ways yet no goals to be scored.
The third period was much of the same as close calls went both ways, as each team was sure they had a goal only for the referees to see different. Caledon tallied 2 late goals to finish the game and win 6-0.

Congratulations to the other teams as they are 2 tough teams. Congratulations to our hawk team for not backing down and fighting hard every shift!! Despite the losses, the team was upbeat and happy with how they played. Hard fought, entertaining games and ready to exact revenge on Brantford upcoming this Friday. Keep up the good work Hawks, were starting to see that hard work payoff.
