Coming Back to Earn a Point
On Sunday the Hawks traveled to Brantford for their last regular season meeting against the 99ers.  Going into the game, the Hawks were tied for first place with Brantford.

The Hawks had a rough start and found themselves down 3-0 nearing the end of the first.  Despite the deficit, the Hawks had some good plays in the first.  Nevin Noble made a great hard pass through centre ice right to Lucas Sousa on his boards; and defensively Matthew Klassen was able to stop a breakaway from happening by taking the puck at centre ice. In between periods coach Marie got the boys back focused.  With just a minute left on the clock, Andrew Quarrie found himself on a breakaway.  Quarrie took the puck straight to the net, then pulled the move to the left taking the goalie with him but leaving the puck right in front of the wide open net.  Camden Schaefer followed Quarrie and was able to tap the puck in.

Down by two, the Hawks looked better in the second period.  Liam Lapierre was strong on defence, shadowing a Brantford player at their blue line so that the 99ers could clear the puck to him.  Brantford had no choice but to try to clear the puck to the other point, and Nathan Lahey stepped in to create the turnover and a scoring chance for the Hawks.  The Hawks were unable to convert on that play, but minutes later they brought the score within one when Liam Lapierre fed the puck to Ryland MacPherson who passed it to Justin Vandervelde who took the shot through traffic.

In the third period the Hawks tied it up when MacPherson again fed the puck to Vandervelde who tipped it over to Quintin Douglas on the 2 on 1.  Douglas took the shot and the goalie couldn't squeeze it to make the save. Douglas was hustling all game.  Brantford came on strong in the third, putting 12 shots on net.  They had a great scoring chance but Parker Campbell stopped the one-timer attempt by getting his stick in the lane.  Despite the rough start, Blake Fletcher played well after the first 5 minutes, then stopping 25 shots in a row.

The point meant the Hawks and 99ers were still tied, but Waterloo White was also now tied with them due to their win earlier in the day.  The Hawks will face Waterloo White on Saturday and look to take sole first place.
