The Cambridge Atom Select Hawks continued their regular season winning streak over the weekend at the Bradford Blue & Gold Tournament.
Friday the Hawks opened the Tournament against Waterloo. A quick-paced game against what would eventually be their Tournament Championship rivals, the Hawks put forth a resilient effort. Hunter Barnhardt took the puck the length of the ice wiring a hard backhand in under the Waterloo goaltenders pad, netting a late 3rd period goal with seconds left to finish a 2-2 tie.
Saturday the Hawks took to the Ice twice winning both games with confidence. Game 1 saw the Hawks take a 4-0 runaway game to the Amesbury Avalanche. Mathew Zehr, Emmett Juneau, Lucas Zaba and Brady Reeve rounded out the scoring for Cambridge.
Game 2 Saturday saw the Hawks tested all game. Tied 2-2 with less than 5 minutes to play Noah Patten drove in and fired a high wrist shot from the slot giving the Hawks the 3-2 lead. The very next shift saw Brady Reeve take a pass up the middle, drive hard to the net forcing the puck home giving the Hawks the 4-2 Victory sending them to the Championship Final.
Sunday the Hawks engaged in a defensive battle versus the Waterloo in the Championship Final. Despite numerous scoring attempts only Lucas Aguiar was able to solve the Waterloo Goaltender and the Hawks fell to Waterloo 3-1 to take Tournament Silver. Cambridge Goaltenders Ben Shewchuk and Owen Lopes were solid in net for Cambridge all weekend surrendering only 4 goals all tournament!
Congratulations Hawks!
