Hawks vs Hawks The Meaning of Hockey Part 2
It was a Hawks vs Hawks kinda night Sunday at Dickson.
By now most of us have heard the story of Hunter Barnhardt and David Boddy. Their story has been in many newspapers and media outlets over the past couple of months.

After all that was done for Hunter by David, his coach Joe Couto and the rest of his Meadowvale Hawks team, it was time for us to return the favour. We invited David and his team down for a fun scrimmage, but kept it a secret from Hunter to surprise him. Hunter and David have become good friends since the tournament in Oakville, continuously keeping in touch on facetime. With David waiting in the dressing room, Hunter arrived at the arena. When he finally saw David it was a sight to be seen, reminding us all of the true friendships that hockey can create. Away from the ice, hard practices, pressure to win...the boys made a true friendship, which is what hockey is all about.
Once the boys hit the ice, both teams participated in a couple of warm up drills then came over and posed for a picture for the all the parents in attendance. David was presented his very own Cambridge Hawks jersey. Several of the players from both teams swapped jerseys and a fun scrimmage was had with teams of mixed players from both squads. There were plenty of toe drags, dangles, big saves and chirps from the bench...but most of all smiles and laughs. A night of fun, friendship and good times on the ice, with nobody caring about what the score was.
This was a night that was truly about hockey and friendships...something that can be easily forgotten during a long season. We could all learn something from these 2 boys as they once again showed the true meaning of hockey. Thank you Hunter and David, coach Couto and the rest of the Meadowvale Hawks for a great night and for reminding us all what hockey is truly all about.
