Like sand through
the hourglass, these are the days of our HAWKS. September and October have
proven to be an exciting time for the Minor Atom AAA team. For a team that has
been brought together from many different centres, these HAWKS have become a
team.
Thanks to the invaluable support the team has received, we have been able to secure additional player development and the benefits from that are really starting to show on the ice.
Over the past month we have started to see real growth and development in the areas of skating, passing, and positioning.The last two months have been exciting, with several close games, and a few ties, and while the scoreboard has not fallen in our favour as much as we would like, the on-ice action tells a different story. We see the forwards (Bender, Gillies, Hobson, Humphrey, Natale, Pragnell, Shewchuk, Westwood, Whyte) working hard - attacking the puck in the opposition’s end, using their strength and athleticism to create scoring opportunities on a regular basis. Our defense (Day, Gardner, Howell, McLeod, O’Brien, Scott) are learning to read and react to the different playing styles we are seeing from our competitors, while playing a much stronger and more aggressive brand of defense. With our forward and defense working hard outfront, our backend remains strong. Matheson and Quirk have been rock solid between the pipes - seeing their fair share of shots most games and rising to the challenge. As our strategy of increasing the individual core skills of the players continues, it is opening up our options and allows us to play a more complete team game. One thing is for certain, this is a team of determined young athletes who continue to put the hard work into their craft. It is that commitment that has the coaching staff excited for the weeks and months ahead! We hope you will come out to support your favourite HAWKS tonight at 7pm at Galt Gardens as we take on the Waterloo Wolves. Go Hawks Go!
