“Giving is not just
about making a donation. It is about making a difference.” – Kathy Calvin, CEO
& President of the United Nations Foundation
For this group of
hard-working athletes who make up the U14A Cambridge Hawks, this season has
been no different than prior seasons in terms of one of the many goals they set
for themselves – to give back to the community. Past initiatives include
sponsoring a family during the Holidays as well as collecting donations for the
Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank.
Early in the
season, in preparation for the Holidays, the Hawks completed a Fundraiser by
selling Reids Chocolates. In addition to supporting a local business, their
efforts also resulted in raising just over $1,000.00 to use towards their Give
Back goal.
After careful
research, they identified Langs as the
recipient of their donation. Not only did one of the Langs principles which
states, ‘The health and well-being of individuals are enhanced by involvement
in their neighbourhood and wider community’, catch their eye, but they also
chose this organization as they were excited about how many individuals they
would be able to support with just one donation. Through their donation,
the U14A Hawks were able to send fourteen kids to camp, as well as sponsor a
Youth Dinner hosted by Langs.
On February 20th,
2024, Nate Williams, Cooper Miranda, and Brennan Brown of the U14A Hawks were
able to visit Langs to present the funds to Dave and Darcy. Cooper
Miranda shared that it, ‘means a lot to be able to donate, because kids who
don’t have as many opportunities are now able to do things that they may not
normally get to experience’. Assistant Captain, Nate Williams also shared
similar thoughts when he said, ‘it makes me feel good to see other kids who
don’t always have these opportunities being able to go out and have fun’.
A big thank you to
those who supported our fundraising efforts this season. With your help,
these Hawks were able to exceed their Give Back goal.
The U14A Hawks
strongly believe in helping others. As Brennan Brown comments, ‘it makes me
feel good that we are able to give back into the world’. Go Hawks Go!
