Flyers Reach the Finals in Burlington Tournament
Flyers article submitted:

What a performance the Flyers put on this past weekend for all who came to watch. These boys had a blast this weekend. The endless games of mini-sticks, man hunt, swimming and of course lots of hockey.   It’s these times the kids will remember.   We get so caught up in the game and we forget how much fun was to be had; indeed, the memories and friendships will last for many years to come. What a fantastic group of boys!

In their first game their registered a 2-2 tie thanks to goals by Logan Kennedy and Ethan Reynolds.  In their second game they won 4-3 with goals coming from Dax Laking, Chase Machin, Ben George and Cameron Bonneville.  The neded the round robin undefeated thanks to a 3-1 win powered by goals from Logan Kennedy, Ethan Reynolds and Jansen McDougall.

Despite a full slate of house league playoff games the Flyers were fire up for the semi final game on Sunday.  The 1st period ended with no score, with both teams fighting hard for the puck .  The Flyer defense proved they were a force to be reckoned with Matt Lerch, Ethan Reynolds, Dakota Laking and substitute John Bulten. With 38 seconds remaining in the 2nd period the Northstars scored.  This did not discourage the Flyers as Cameron Bonneville scored with only 8 seconds left, thanks in large part to the efforts and team work from Logan Kennedy and Dax Laking.  The 3rd continued with lots of back and forth action on both sides.  The Flyer tenacity was exemplified by Logan McCubbin's efforts along the boards.  The third belonged to the Flyers as a result.  Reed Wagner scored the 2nd  goal assisted by Chase Machin, followed by Kennedy Logan scoring the 3rd goal assisted by Ben George and Cameron Bonneville.  Still, the win would not have been possible were it not for the outstanding performance and exceptional saves made by Jack Murphy.

This final was a real nail biter.  It was an action filled game with lots of emotion yet penalty free game.  Clearly both teams were very evenly matched as there was no score after 2 periods.  Ben George was turned down on a few great breakaways by a solid Flames goaltender. Yet the Flyers were not to be outdone in goal as Logan Gorman was nothing short sensational with a glove save.  With 5:18 left in the 3rd period Chase Machin scored a beautiful goal but the opposition Flames came right back with their own goal. Additional pressure was applied by the Flames but our defensemen Stan Melchers and John Bulten (substitute) would not back down. With 4:01 left in the 3rd Cameron Bonneville scored giving the Flyers a 2-1 lead; however, the Flames were not throwing in the towel just yet and managed to tie the game up with 22 seconds left.  The game went to overtime from there and there was 11, yes 11, one minute overtime periods.  Unfortunately a Flame shot just trickled over the line to end the game.  It was a hard way to end the game but the boys truly played their hearts out.

The Flyer parents wish to thank their Coach Brad George and Assistants Doug Laxing, Steve Gorman and Dave Bulten for keeping these boys encouraged and positive.
