Hawks make Cambridge Times again!
Submitted by GabeHawks move into first place
With five straight wins, extending their undefeated streak to six, the Cambridge minor atom MD Hawks have muscled their way into first place.
After a few big wins the week before, the team struggled out of the gate against a strong St. Catharines team on Saturday.
The speedy Hurricanes quickly flipped in a backhander, putting the Hawks behind 1-0 within the first few minutes.
Tristan Worster evened the score, with assists coming from Kurtis Wheeler and Pierson Graham.
The team slowly settled in and came back to build a 4-1 lead by the end of the second.
With St. Catharines pressing, and a few lucky bounces, the lead quickly eroded to 4-3 with less than five minutes left.
The Hawks managed to fend off the Hurricanes attack, though, even with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker.
AJ Ferreira recorded six points in five games, three of which came against St. Kitts.
Other big point getters in the five-game winning streak are Owen VanSickle, Scott Ingham and Adam Isley, each netting three points and contributing to the team’s success.
With some tough opponents coming up, hard work from the opening face off will be needed to extend their lead in the standings.
