Hawks earn two big wins
With three points separating first and fourth place, the Cambridge minor atom MD Hawks knew they couldn’t afford any mistakes in Waterloo last weekend.
The strong defensive work of Maxwell Suckert, Ty Charron and Hunter Merritt kept the Ice Wolves’ offence at bay, allowing only a handful of shots, which goaltender Jacob Lainey was able to handle with ease.
Brady Lennox scored the only goal of the game and gave the Hawks the 1-0 victory on Saturday.
On Sunday, the Hawks travelled back to Waterloo to meet the Timber Wolves and won 4-1.
Aiden Joyce led the charge, followed by goals from Dre Amaral, Kyle Parsons and Owen Vansickle.
A late rebound goal on a 2-on-1 by the Timber Wolves spoiled the shutout bid for goalie Patrick Dutto.
