2015 Day of Champions (DOC)
Another great day of Championship Games and Award Banquets
for CMHA. A special thank you to our Day of Champions volunteers and the hours
of work they put into the event and in the days leading up to it. I have heard
from many that think it is as good as any sporting event put on in the region.
We have a bit of a tradition at our DOC were the Championship team carries the trophy around the rink and show it to the fans, then get their picture taken in front of the DOC banner. In most cases the other team has already left the ice, but this year a wonderful thing happened in our Minor Peewee division. The Penguin team stayed on the ice, celebrated playing a great game after a successful season and joined the champion Capitals team for a group picture in front of the banner.
What a great example they gave us of what true sportsmanship is all about and that it is about the journey and not just the destination. Never should one goal define how a player or team feels about their performance. It is true that we are not only making young hockey players, but we are also making good young adults and the coaches of these two teams are leading the way.
