INTRODUCING OUR U12 AAA HEAD COACH FOR THE 2025-2026 SEASON HOWIE MARTIN Getting to know Coach Howie: What inspired you to become a hockey coach? My love for the game. Hockey has been so good to me throughout my life and has opened doors for me that would not have been possible without my hockey experience. I feel honoured to be able to share my knowledge and experiences with players and parents. Seeing my players do small things that I've taught them in practice always brings a smile to my face. How do you foster team culture? My team does quite a bit of team building early in the season. Fun activities like soccer, mini putt, movies etc... I also create a positive environment for the boys. The players should have fun every time they are at the arena. I also have frequent communication with parents. I meet with parents and players frequently throughout the season to address any challenges players may have. What does it feel like to be coached by me? We have a lot of fun. My goal is to teach the boys to play hockey in a fun and challenging way. I also want every player to reach their potential and to stretch that potential. I am an encourager and a motivator. My teams are hard working and play a fast, puck moving game. What do you want your players to learn or take away from this season? That it's okay to fail. I want my players to know that I support and encourage them trying new things. We learn more from our failures than our successes. My players are young and developing. Keep trying things and keep getting better! Who is your favorite NHL team? Pittsburgh Penguins Who is your favorite retired player? Favorite Current Player? Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby 2025 Stanley Cup Champs are... Pittsburgh Penguins (not likely but I am a loyal fan. Keep believing until the very end!) Who is your favorite music artist? Kenny Chesney or Brad Paisley Away from the rink you will most likely find me... With three boys playing hockey, I am always at the rink! I love it. In July though, you will find me at a few provincial parks camping with my wife and boys.
