Minor Midget A - Tournament Champs
The Minor Midget A Hawks took to the ice this past weekend in the Kitchener Minor Hockey Early Bird tournament in the AA loop and came out as champions.
The Hawks opened the tournament against the Belleville Bulls, and ran into a hot goalie, outshooting the competition 49 to 21 but ended up falling 4-1 in the end with two open net goals. Second game was against North Durham and a 2-0 win. Third and final game of the round robin was against the GTHL Toronto Capitals, with the boys needing a big win to place inside the top 3. The Hawks delivered from the drop of the puck and worked their way to a 8-1 win.
In the semi final game, the Hawks were back up against the Belleville Bulls, and flew to a 4-1 victory to secure their place in the finals.
The championship game pitted the injury depleted Hawks against the undefeated Guelph Gryphons AA squad, and through three evenly matched periods of play, the Hawks came out with a 3-1 win.
Great way to start the season!
