U13 A Hawks Finalists in Guelph Tourney
The U13 A Cambridge Hawks participated in the 52nd Annual Guelph Power Play Tournament from November 22 to 24. In a division with 10 teams the Hawks managed an excellent 2nd place finish.
The tournament opened with a game against a tough Glancaster team. The Hawks opened the scoring only to see Glancaster come back to tie it. The Hawks got the winning marker on a penalty shot for a 2-1 final.
the Hawks had another 2-1 lead in their next game against another tough team in LaSalle only this time the opposition scored 2 more goals to hand the Hawks a 3-2 loss.
That put pressure on Cambridge to win their last 2 games as only the top 4 teams out of the 10 moved on to play on Sunday. The Hawks delivered in their 3rd game with a solid 4-1 win over Orleans. The last round robin game against Windsor was a roller-coaster. After a scoreless first period, the Hawks went down 2-0 in the 2nd period. Cambridge got 2 quick goals halfway through the 3rd to tie the score. One minute later Windsor scored again to take a 3-2 lead. The Hawks pulled even again with just over 2 minutes to play and the score held from there at 3-3.
Cambridge got some help from other teams and squeaked into the semi-finals against the undefeated team from LaSalle. The underdog Hawks were at their best and battled to a 0-0 score after 2 periods. The Hawks scored 2 goals a minute apart early in the 2rd. Cambridge held on from there to secure a 2-0 victory and a spot in the finals.
The finals saw the Hawks against the Talbot Trail Blazers. Cambridge beat Talbot in the finals of a Belleville tourney a few weeks before. Talbot came out hard looking for revenge. They scored on the first shift of the game and Cambridge just couldn't get much going and ended up losing 4-0.
Congratulations U13A Hawks on a great tournament.
