CMHA Jersey Policy Update & Rationale
Please see below an update and rationale regarding our jersey purchase policy.

Rationale:

CMHA  has recently received several emails which have expressed member's concerns with regard to the CMHA sweater purchase policy. I am writing to address these concerns.

In the past, CMHA purchased jerseys and provided them to each player.  The cost for this was built into the rep carding fees.  However,  CMHA received feedback from our members which expressed dissatisfaction regarding this method of providing jerseys.  In order to meet the request of our members the CMHA jersey policy was amended so that members would purchase their own jerseys instead of having CMHA supply them. This change was made based on the following rationale:

  • Ensuring a proper fit for each player

  • Allowed players to choose their own jersey numbers

Initially, the policy was amended with the requirement that players had to purchase a new jersey each year in order to maintain a consistent standard of quality and appearance.  However, based on additional consideration, CMHA implemented a two-year replacement cycle for jerseys in the U10, U12, U14, and U16 divisions in order to recognize the expense of purchasing a new jersey annually.

It is important to note that CMHA does not benefit financially from jersey purchases. The cost of jerseys is solely the responsibility of players and their families.

2024 Jersey Color Change

For a few years prior to 2024, CMHA received feedback with regard to our sweater colours.  In particular, negative feedback was received with regard to the red jersey.  In response to this member feedback, in 2024, CMHA surveyed all of our members in order to determine the preferred colours.  Overwhelmingly the survey responses showed the members preferred to have a white and a black jersey.  Accordingly, CMHA changed the jersey color scheme, replacing the red jersey with a white one. In order to comply with the amended jersey policy (colour scheme), all players were required to purchase a new white jersey for the 2024–25 season.

Policy

As noted above, CMHA's jersey policy is to replace sweaters every two years.  The replacement years are in U10, U12, U14, and U16 divisions.  This year represents a year with unfortunate timing as the white jerseys were introduced last year and now the replacement cycle for the previously noted divisions has come into effect this year.

The current Jersey Purchase Policy is available on the CMHA website under:

Libraries → CMHA Policies → Jersey Purchase Policy

Looking Ahead.

Barring unforeseen changes, players/families should only be required to replace jerseys in accordance with the established two-year cycle moving forward. For the 2025–26 season, the existing policy remains in effect, and unfortunately cannot be altered at this time, as many members have already placed their jersey orders.

Your Feedback Matters

If you feel the current jersey policy no longer meets the needs of our membership, we welcome your input. Please direct any feedback or suggestions for improvement to the CMHA Equipment Manager. Your voice is important in helping shape future policy decisions.

Thank you for your ongoing support of CMHA.

Sincerely,

CMHA Executive
