Congratulations to our Hank Korec award recipient for the 2024-2025 season, John Morton
John began his volunteerism with Cambridge Minor Hockey Association in 1990 at the Galt Minor Hockey School helping Al Findlay as an on-ice helper when his son, Tyler joined the program.
He assisted with this program until Tyler hit the tyke division. John jumped into coaching that year and continued with this all the way up through to juvenile, coaching his son throughout his hockey career.
Once Tyler went away to college, he became the Director of Convenors, working for Wally in house league until he eventually joined the board in 1990 as the Discipline Chair.
As a non-parent, John has continued to be a mainstay in our hockey community, serving various roles, becoming the President in 2013 until stepping down in 2024 but still currently serves as our Past President.
Throughout his time with CMHA, John has been particularly proud of being involved with every House League Day of Champs since it’s inception. He has consistently served on the Rep Coach Selection Committee for a number of years. Most recently, he has worked closely with the City of Cambridge regarding the expansion to the new twin pad.
Over his last 35 years with Cambridge Minor Hockey, John has served the association selflessly and continue to strive to make Cambridge Minor Hockey a community for the betterment of hockey and youth sports in our community.
We thank you for your years of service, John.
