Happy Hallowe’en!
This weekend marks the end of Daylight Savings Time and a shift in our game/practice scheduling going forward.

A few updates...

Timing is Everything

We fall back this weekend!  Be sure to change your clocks.

Please also note that the schedule reflects the moving of the practice to the earliest time slot on Saturday AND Sunday.  This way, we can start our games on time, foster continued attendance and have potential to cover for goalies for games.

If you have not done so, I encourage you to have your team’s calendar “pushed” to your device.  Our site has great instructions on how to do this.  This ensures that you have the most up-to-date information.  Subscribing is much better than downloading!

Respect

During this weekend, each coach will be reading a bulletin to their entire team.  This memo is delivered via Tony Martindale, an Executive Director with Alliance Hockey, on behalf of Keith Woods - Chair of Discipline.  It was sent league wide to reiterate the zero tolerance approach to harassment… especially as it pertains to Discriminatory Slurs.  The league suggests:

Discriminatory Slurs are defined as: Insults, intimidation or verbal taunts based on a person’s race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or language. What we are finding is profanity laced comments to a person’s perceived sexual preference seems to be the most commonly used slur.

Tony goes on to direct that if, upon review by administration, a player is found to have uttered a discriminatory slur, the league will impose a 5 game suspension.  Furthermore, the individual will be required to complete specific Respect in Sport training within 30 days.

I must repeat that this is an Association directive.  We have not had, to my awareness, any formal complaints within our Major Bantam league.  Be aware that we take any form of harassment, bullying or abusive behavior very seriously and with zero tolerance.

Picture day

The league has informed me that Picture day is scheduled for November 22.  Bring your hockey smiles!
