TODD WILLIAMS
Getting to know Coach Todd:
What inspired you to become a hockey coach?
I love teaching. I love competing. There is no greater feeling than watching a player grow as an athlete and as a human being. Working with young athletes to make them better has been a passion of mine for over thirty years and across multiple sports.
How do you foster team culture?
Team culture is imperative for success. If everyone isn’t pulling in the same direction, you simply go in circles and don’t really progress. We will promote team culture by making sure that the players trust the coaches, the coaches trust the players, and most importantly, the players trust the players. In a room of 17 players, not everyone is going to be best friends, but what we will insist upon is that everyone respects each other.
What does it feel like to be coached by me?
You are going to love being coached by me. You will never wonder where you stand. I will be honest every single time we talk. I will tell you if you aren’t working hard enough, and I will tell you when you are doing great. I will work with you to make you better, both on and off the ice. I will take the time to understand what your goals are and I will work with you to achieve those goals, in a way that benefits you and the team. I will expect maximum effort at every game and every practice, and together with the other 16 players on the team we will continually strive to be our best. You won’t simply be joining a hockey team...you will be joining a brand new hockey family. A group of warriors who will do anything for the person sitting beside them. Willing to do whatever it takes to succeed.
What do you want your players to learn or take away from this season?
I want my players to learn how to win. I want them to learn how to be successful. I want them to understand that winning is hard and it is the extra effort and attention to detail that will put them over the top. Doing the thing that others aren’t willing to do will lead you to success. Throughout the season, they will learn that the best player on the ice is the hardest worker.
