INTRODUCING OUR U13 AAA HEAD COACH FOR THE 2026-2027 SEASON HOWIE MARTIN Getting to know Coach Howie: What inspired you to become a hockey coach? I love the game of hockey. It has been so good to me. It’s allowed me to make amazing friendships and connections, prepared me for my professional life, paid for my education and so much more. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to work with young hockey players. I want to give back to others in the ways that so many hockey coaches gave to me. How do you foster team culture? I create a fun environment where both players and parents feel welcome. I’m very approachable and love getting to know my players and families. We do several team building events to start the year and then a few spread out throughout the year. What does it feel like to be coached by me? I hope my players know that it’s okay to try new things. Making mistakes is part of the development process. They know that I will be there to guide them through those learning opportunities. My players know I have their back and will go through a wall for them. What do you want your players to learn or take away from this season? First and foremost, I want my players to have fun. If they are having fun, they are more likely to learn and get better. I also want to teach them how to work hard. My players know what my expectations are and we push them to work their hardest every time they step on the ice. I tell my players, every time they step on the ice, is a chance to get a little bit better. Don’t waste this opportunity. Who is your favorite NHL team? Pittsburgh Penguins Who is your favorite retired player? Favorite Current Player? Mario Lemieux. He’s simply the best ever. Sidney Crosby. He’s the complete package. No current player is better. 2026 Stanley Cup Champs are... Pittsburgh Penguins Who is your favorite music artist? Anything country. Away from the rink you will most likely find me... I have three sons and am always at the arena! I love it though. July though our family spends a lot of time camping around Ontario. Anything else you want people to know about you? I’m excited to work with the 2014 group again. I feel so grateful for the opportunity to continue to see my players grow not only as hockey players but as young people. I work with kids at this age in my profession so this is natural for me.
