INTRODUCING OUR U15 AAA HEAD COACH FOR THE 2026-2027 SEASON
SCOTT VAN TRIGT
Getting to know Coach Scott:
What inspired you to become a hockey coach?
was inspired to become a hockey coach because hockey was where I learned some of the most important lessons of my life - about work ethic, belonging, accountability, and what it means to be part of something bigger than yourself. Coaching now is my way of passing that forward. It's not just about the game; its about creating the same kind of environment where players feel seen, supported, and built into better people.
How do you foster team culture?
Through creating a clear set of values and expectations that everyone understands and lives by, leading by example, and building strong relationships/connections both on and off the ice. I encourage players to take ownership through leadership roles and input, establish rituals and traditions that reinforce team identity, and hold everyone accountable in a fair and consistent way. This hopefully produces an environment that is challenging and fun, where players feel supported, proud, and motivated to be part of a group/something bigger then themselves.

What does it feel like to be coached by me?
Being coached by me feels structured, demanding, and supportive at the same time. Players know exactly what's expected of them, but they also know that I care about them as people, not just athletes. Practices are purposeful, accountability is real, and effort is non-negotiable, yet there's a sense of trust, positivity, and belonging in the room. I push players to be better than they think they can be, while creating an environment, where they feel seen, encouraged, and proud to be part of the team.

What do you want your players to learn or take away from this season?
I want players to take away more than just improvement of their hockey skills this season. I want them to learn the value of hard work, accountability, and teamwork, and to understand what it means to support each other both on and off the ice. I want them to gain confidence, resilience, leadership, and to leave the season knowing they're part of something bigger then themselves - a culture they helped build and a team they can all be proud of.

Who is your favorite NHL team?
While I was born into Leafs Nation, I also cheer for former players and/or friends in the league with many different teams.
Who is your favorite retired player? Favorite Current Player?
I had two favorite players growing up, Wendel Clark and Rob Blake. Wendel brought heart, grit, and fearless intensity every time he laced up. Rob was from the same hometown and was always what I thought a great two way defensemen should be, elite skill, strength, and intelligence on both sides of the puck.
My favorite current NHL player is Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings, he is elite at both shutting down top opponents defensively and generating offense when his team needs it.

2026 Stanley Cup Champs are...
Colorado Avalanche look like the team to beat this year, they can play any style you try to play them.

Who is your favorite music artist?
My favorite band of all time is the Tragically Hip.

Away from the rink you will most likely find me...
In the summer I enjoy golfing, live music and being outdoors as much as possible.

Anything else you want people to know about you?
