INTRODUCING OUR U16 B/BB HEAD COACH FOR THE 2026-2027 SEASON
COACH LLOYD CRUZ
Getting to know Coach:
What inspired you to become a hockey coach?
Knowing the impact coaches have on young athletes, not just honing their skills on the ice but fostering confidence, teamwork, and life lessons that extend far beyond the ink. I love the opportunity to guide and support players, helping them overcome challenges, celebrate successes, and grow into well rounded individuals.
How do you foster team culture?
Fostering a positive team culture is my top priority. I believe it starts with me treating players, parents and staff with respect at all times. I emphasize open communication and creating an environment where everyone feels heard and valued. We build this through team building activities like off ice outings, group discussions, and goal setting sessions at the beginning of the season. Celebrating both big wins and small efforts reinforces positivity, while addressing challenges as a group teaches resilience and accountability. In the end, our culture is rooted in unity and growth, turning a group of talented individuals into a family that supports each other through adversity and triumph.

What does it feel like to be coached by me?
Being coached by me is an empowering and enjoyable experience centered on positive reinforcement and growth. I believe in highlighting strengths, celebrating every effort big or small and providing constructive guidance to help players navigate challenges without resorting to harsh criticism and ensuring they're not scared to make mistakes. This approach creates a fun, supportive atmosphere where players feel motivated, confident, and excited to push their limits, both on the ice and in life.

What do you want your players to learn or take away from this season?
I want my players to walk away from this season with not just improved hockey skills, but a deeper understanding of teamwork, resilience, and personal growth. By focusing on positive reinforcement and creating a space where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities, they learn to embrace challenges without fear, build lasting confidence, and support one another like a family. Ultimately, I hope they take away a lifelong love for the game, the tools to handle adversity in any aspect of life, and the joy of achieving goals together as a team.
