INTRODUCING OUR U8 MD HEAD COACH FOR THE 2026-2027 SEASON
PATRICK SHERREN
Getting to know Coach Patrick:
What inspired you to become a hockey coach?
I’ve spent my life in the rink as a player and an official, which gives me a unique view of how the game is actually won. Now that my own kid is on the ice, I’m stepping behind the bench to help the next group of skaters build a solid technical foundation. My focus is on high-tempo development and making sure these kids enjoy coming to the rink as much as I still do.
How do you foster team culture?
My goal is to build a team of players who have smiles on their faces as they come to the rink. As a parent and a coach, I focus on keeping the energy high and the drills competitive. If you create an environment where kids are pushed to improve but also allowed to compete and have fun, they’ll naturally buy into the team and work harder for each other.

What does it feel like to be coached by me?
Being coached by me means focusing on the details of the game without the 'grind' mentality. I’m big on technical precision—especially with skating—but I believe those skills stick best when they’re learned through competition. I’m vocal and encouraging, ensuring players know exactly what they’re working on while keeping the energy high. Ultimately, I want the kids to work hard because they’re having fun competing, not just because they’re told to.

What do you want your players to learn or take away from this season?
By the end of the season, I want my players to have a noticeable jump in their skating confidence and a better hockey IQ. Beyond the mechanics, I hope they take away the understanding that hard work and having a great time at the rink aren't mutually exclusive. I want them to finish the year as better athletes who are genuinely excited to sign up for next season.
