With four points up for
grabs this weekend the Hawks battled hard this afternoon en route to their second
victory in as many days and a sweep of all four points!
“I couldn’t be happier with the way our boys played this weekend!” beamed head coach Craig McLaren. “They worked very hard all weekend and they were rewarded with 2 BIG wins!”
After the win in Hamilton I scrolled back through my notes and realized that there was in fact a team challenge (5 points in 5 games ) and realized that yesterday’s victory in Hamilton gave the team 5 points in the first three games!
“Today’s two points were just the icing on the cake! Our boys were prepared to work hard, follow through with what the coaches have been teaching them in practice and pay the price to win. They battled and they kept their feet moving! I am so happy for them!!” explained Trainer John “Rudy” Papalia. “I know the coaches will have something for the boys on Tuesday after practice.”
Missing Carson Frazer and Danny Rose for the second straight day the boys stepped up their efforts in both ends of the rink.
“Hammer Time played well again today and made some key saves to say the least. I thought our team played real well in front of him as well!” explained Coach Neil. “AND HEY…how about Lloyder sniping his first ever goal as a Hawk! Yesterday C-Mo scores his first and now today Lloyder AND Hank!! I am so pleased to see these guys contribute offensively because they battle so hard for us defensively.”
“We talk about the boys taking care of their own end first and in the offensive end getting in hard and forcing their D-men” said an enthusiastic Coach Dave. “We have a lot of speed up front and when the boys use it and go wide or force their D down deep in the zone there aren’t too many teams who will stop us. We are learning how to work and in the last month or so we are also learning how to win.”
“It was a great weekend for a number of our players” cited Coach Craig. “Justin Pimentel had a HUGE weekend! Lloyder played great! Panny was one of our top players all weekend. C-Mo has strung together a number of real solid games. Kowie was moving the puck well. Sous battled at both ends today! Kitts was a leader on and off the ice and started to carry the puck a little more. Hank and Tuffy were real strong for us! Shaughny continued to play great 2 way hockey. Browny was moving his feet and snipes 2 goals! Paps nets a huge goal for us yesterday a great TEAM guy. The Rock was rock solid up and down his wing. Hammer made some outstanding saves! And Maccer continues to work his butt off at both ends of the ice and be a strong leader both in the room and on the ice.”
Suffice it to say the coaching staff of the Cambridge atom MD Hawks were extremely proud of their boys this weekend. They also mentioned that the boys were very happy with themselves after the game and rightfully so. These boys are learning how to work hard, what it takes to compete and how to be successful. True to their word and their philosophy I can only assume that the staff will be pushing these Hawks this week in practice as next weekend’s games are equally as important. If the boys continue to listen, I know they will work hard and do what it takes to compete it will make for some great hockey next weekend.
Get your tickets early folks! There were a number of disappointed fans in St. Catherine’s today when they showed up to the box office only to see today’s game sold out!
