HAWKS Fall to First Place Wolves
On a rare mid-week game the Atom MD HAWKS dropped a 3-1 decision to the first place Wolves from Waterloo.

From the start to finish of the game the HAWKS played one of their most complete games of the season.  They battled hard but it as Coach McLaren describes they fell on some hard "puck-luck" this evening.

"We battled pretty well the entire game.  We didn't dominate that way we did in the first period against Hamilton last Sunday but I thought the boys battled for 3 periods tonight.  When we keep our feet moving and stick to the game plan we can play with any team in this league.  First place or not after tonight's game I know we can beat that Waterloo team.  We had a few shifts where we stopped moving our feet and they took advantage of it and the puck wound up in the back of our net...that's why they are a first place team.  They played their positions very well ALWAYS keeping a high guy in the slot and they kept their feet moving - exactly what we have been teaching our boys.  When you keep your feet moving and working hard 'puck-luck' usually goes your way."

Some untimely penalties ultimately lead to the demise of the HAWKS tonight.  "You can't give a team a 5 on 3 opportunity in this league.  We work so hard to battle and then take some bad penalties to basically allow for them a great opportunity to take over the game - not good" indicated Coach Dave Brown.  "But we have to take the positives out of that game and learn from the negatives.  Our boys battled with the top place team for 3 periods is a big plus for us."

While I do realize not many of our readers get the opportunity to come out to see these HAWKS play one thing is for certain (in my opinion) - there is just something special about this team.  I think at some point this season they are going to figure it out and I think once they do they are going to make some noise.  All of the signs are there and the overall improvement of the team and of the players from September until now is incredible.  Sure there is a lot to still work on but once the players start to battle every shift, once they start to believe in themselves and in each other the "puck-luck" will start to go in favour of the HAWKS.  They say "ya gotta be good to be lucky and lucky to be good."

The HAWKS are back in action on Saturday as they face a strong Kitchener Rangers team.  I am sure the HAWKS will be primed and ready for this one as the boys owe the Rangers some pay back and what better place to do it then on their home ice!  Best of luck HAWKS!!!!
