Week 13 Update
Todays trio of games were simply a treat for the fans, coaches and players.  All three games were fast paced, clean and intense affairs.  There was no shortage of timely goals and timely saves.

The day began with an original six tilt between the Habs and Bruins.  The Habs struck early and led 2-0 after the first.  In the second both teams traded goals and the score sat at 4-2 for the Habs going in to the third.  Very timely goals in the third by Jacob Brun and Reid Merritt - with a mere 10 seconds left - meant the game ended in a tie.  The Habs received stellar goaltending from Jackson Soucie and the hard work of Alex Moon paid off with a pair of assists.

The second game of the day between the Sharks and the Leafs ended in a 2-2 tie with eleven different skaters recording a point.  The game went back and forth, end to end, side to side at a dizzying pace, as the teams traded off goals in the first and the second but both shut the door in the third.  The Leafs relied heavily upon the steady defensive play of Braeden De Mann (1 a) yet it was their goalie Dakota Bacchus who was the hero facing down waves of Shark shooters.  The Sharks had excellent efforts by the ever calm Michael Metcalfe on the blueline and the hardworking Janson Duench (1 g) as a forward.

The final game of the day was between the Flyers and Penguins.  The first belonged to the Penguins as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead.  Yet the second was all Flyers as they evened the score.  However, the pendulum swung back in the third and the first place Penguins skated away with a 4-2 win.  For the Flyers Eric Matheson did not record a point but had a half dozen scoring chances and Dax Laking (1 g) was a bulldog heading to the net.  On the Penguin side of the ledger Caleb Hamilton was the offensive hero (2 g, 1 a) while Nathan Demerchant turned in a great effort along the blueline.

Hopefully everyone has a safe and merry Christmas break and we can all look forward to the tournament next week.  How many new sticks, gloves and helmets will there be  I wonder?
