Stoney Creek: Ace Bailey Tournament Champions
Hawks win their tournament in Stoney Creek with a 4 to 1 victory over Oakville.
Cambridge Minor Bantam MD Hawks were victorious at the recent
“Ace Bailey” OMHA AE tournament in Stoney Creek.
The Hawks went 4 and 1 over the weekend, defeating the Oakville
Rangers for the Tournament Championship.
In the first game of the tournament, Christian Ferraro,
completed a Hat Trick effort with an overtime goal to defeat the Hamilton Blue
Huskies 5 to 4. Other goals were scored by Jace Smith and Camden Naylor.
In game two, the Hawks suffered their only loss of this young
season with a 2 to 1 overtime defeat to the host Stoney Creek Warriors – Adam
Tunnicliffe scoring the lone Cambridge tally.
Cambridge took that defeat in stride and steamrolled the
Pickering Panthers with a 6 to nothing win, Pierce Waigh earning the shutout.
Cambridge scorers were Josh Loewen, Branden Gawal, Anthony Russo, Jalen Wegener,
Ferraro and Naylor.
In the semi-finals, Cambridge faced the Flamborough Sabres and
the Hawks held off a furious late game attack to preserve a 3 to 2 victory.
Brodie Merritt was stellar between the pipes, while goals were scored by Alex
Verbeem, Smith and Loewen.
The final with Oakville was a hard fought close battle for the
first period but the Hawks intensified their forecheck and sealed the deal with
a convincing 4 to 1 win. Two goals were scored by Verbeem, while Tunnicliffe
and Loewen pitched in with singles.
Throughout the tournament, solid set-ups were provided by
Alex Fullerton, Nicholas Taylor and Josh Grasso. While the usual
stellar back-end defense was led by Liam Turchin, Joe Lemieux, Chris
Skilton and Branden Gaudet.
