Hawks Get Thumbs Up From This Writer
On a snowy Saturday morning the Hawks faced-off against the Kitchener Rangers Blue team, and the final score was not indicative of the Hawks' play.
The Hawks put pressure on throughout the whole game, out-shooting the Rangers 31-22. Unfortunately, due to a great (and lucky) Rangers' goalie, the Hawks weren't able to get on the board. The Hawks did a great job forechecking and the puck was in Kitchener's zone for most of the game. The McGowan, MacPherson and Quarrie line once again got a lot of shots at the net, but Kitchener stopped them each time. Ryan Silva was a beast on face-offs, winning almost all, and his winger Lucas Sousa once again was throwing some hard shots at the net. Camden Schaefer and Nevin Noble, both left wingers, used the boards to get through the neutral zone; and Quintin Douglas was great and creating turnovers. When Douglas created the turnover, his winger Justin Vandervelde grabbed the puck, but just couldn't get it past the goalie either.
The Hawks did a good job back-checking as well. Nathan Lahey turned on the gas and any Ranger that got past him didn't get very far with the puck because he was there to take it back. Michael McIntyre proved it wasn't just the gloves and he had moves once again to break the line and get the puck in. Parker Campbell held the line hard and kept the puck in the zone, while Liam Lapierre went blue line to blue line with the puck to get the Hawks' into the offensive zone during the power play. Tyler Caswell worked hard to chase down pucks behind the net and get the pass up the boards to start the breakout, and Matthew Klassen took the position in front of the net.
The Hawks had a couple of bad plays, letting in 3 sort-handed goals, and just couldn't claw their way back. The Hawks will take on Kitchener again today, this time in their own house. Let's hope the Hawks come up with the same fire today, and let's hope they can converge on those rebounds and get a stick on them today to get them past the goal line!
Once again, a shout-out to Charlie Douglas who came up with today's title which was fitting for the game, and made fun of me all at the same time ;)
