In Waterloo this past Saturday the Hawks once again had trouble getting on the score board, and lost 4-1 to the Wolves White team.
The first period was slow, with neither team getting very many shots on net. In the second period, however, the Wolves were able to out-shoot the Hawks and score two goals. The Hawks were moving the puck better in the second and trying hard to get a goal. Nathan Lahey made a great pass to Lucas Sousa at the hash marks, but Waterloo wouldn't let him get a shot off. Andrew Quarrie also had a great scoring chance in the second, when Ryan Silva made a pass from behind the net, but the post robbed Quarrie. Quarrie tried again to get a goal when he took the puck through the neutral zone and got a shot off which the Wolves' goalie saved. Another scoring opportunity came when Ben McGowan pass the puck over to Justin Vandervelde who fed it to Ryland MacPherson for the one-timer, but the goalie slid over for the save.
The third period saw much of the same. Waterloo was out-shooting Cambridge and chasing down more loose pucks. Waterloo was rewarded with two more goals in the third because of their hard work; while Cambridge was only to score one goal. The goal came when Matthew Klassen passed the puck to Vandervelde who took a big wind-up for the one-timer. The goalie was able to get across for the save but was unable to control his rebound which he kicked right to MacPherson who put it in.
Reggie Gignac had another great game in net, keeping the game within reach for the Hawks with a solid save percentage.
The Hawks will next face the Waterloo Wolves Black at home.
