Hawks Win Home Opener!
The Cambridge Minor Peewee Select Hawks won their home opener beating the Halton Hills Thunder 5-3 Saturday night. Read below for the game recap.

The Hawks came out on fire in this contest with Jared Main banging home a rebound off an Alec Frias shot to give the Hawks the opening goal just 48 seconds into the game. Two quick goals followed giving the Hawks a 3-0 advantage after a dominating first period.
The second period was an evenly played period as Halton fought back and got the only goal of the period on a wicked blast from the point. Chances at both ends followed but both goalies held the game in check and after the second period, the Hawks held a 3-1 lead.
The third period was back and forth with Halton cutting the lead to 1 and almost tying the game but a James Mackey diving effort saved a goal and what followed was 2 quick goals by the Hawks to take a commanding 2 goal lead. Halton scored one late but that was all they could muster and Cambridge held on for a 5-3 victory.
Leading the scoring charge was Alec Frias with 2 goals and 2 assists. Other goal scorers including Main, Ncholas Silva, and Kaidyn Lonergan. Alex Quarrie, Tyson Verner, and Silva chipped in assists.
The defense 6 of Mackey, Ethan Weitzel, Dylan Quigley, Dominic Fitzgerald, Adam Floto, and Jagger Adams played a great game, and that combined with a very solid goaltending performance by Adrianna Violi backboned the team to the victory.
It was a great effort from beginning to end by the team. Great forechecking and backchecking contributed to the success of the game. The team executed the dressing room gameplan and came out with the win.

Player of the Game: Jared Main

The Hawks are back in action Thursday against Waterloo.
