HAWKS Battle Hard to the End
Submitted By Matt Gardner on Friday, September 7, 2018
Wednesday night saw the HAWKS play their last pre-season game against the Brantford 99ers. While the scoreboard read 7-5 for the 99ers, the real story is that the HAWKS demonstrated true grit, determination, and a winning attitude. After a late start, and a 5-0 lead for Brantford, the HAWKS broke through with their first goal of the night by Westwood…

While the goal was a beauty, it was the winning mentality that followed it that was most impressive, as Humphrey, fresh off his assist, said in the team huddle, “we still got time, boys, we still got time”. The HAWKS came alive with assists from: O’Brien, Howell, Pragnell, Whyte, Bender and Gillies.

While the HAWKS were faced with adversity, they NEVER gave up. At every drop of the puck the forwards battled hard to take control, while the defence strived to protect the house, and Matheson stood her ground- even taking a hard shot off the facemask. Of all the things that were most impressive during the game, it was the unwavering determination and drive shown by the HAWKS – players and fans, alike. Although the HAWKS did not win the game, they showed themselves, and others, that they are FIGHTERS and they are here for the LONG HAUL. See you all at the season opener on Saturday, September 8th at 1:00pm at Galt Arena Gardens.
