AAA Minor Atom Cambridge Hawks Give Back
Submitted By Matt Gardner on Friday, December 07, 2018
Recently, the Minor Atom AAA team was busy both on and off the ice.  This group of 9 year old kids learned a lot about giving back to their community and the importance of ‘empathy’.

While hockey provides kids opportunities to learn about dedication, commitment, and hardwork, it also provides opportunities to learn about community and support, and this is what these groups of athletes learned. A big thank you to June and Jennifer from the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank for teaching these kids about the value of giving, and the important role the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank does for the community. June and Jennifer talked to the kids about poverty in our community and the ways in which we as members of the community can help to create change.  After giving the kids a tour and answering their many questions, the kids learned that the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank not only collects food, but they also collect clothes and books and are especially looking for warm winter clothes. After helping The Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank sort through the 106 lbs of food they collected at the Cambridge Santa Clause parade, the kids decided to continue their work after leaving the Food bank. The kids went home and collected clothes, books and food to donate at their next home game. At Sunday’s game, the team raised over $62 as well as numerous non-perishable canned goods. We as a team want to continue to give back to our community because we recognize that amazing things can happen when we come together. Thank you so much Cambridge self-help food bank for opening your doors and helping teach the gift of giving.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
