The game started with the Hawks being pressed into their own end against a relentless foe, the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs. Pass after pass was completed and the Hawks were in a bit of a flap. But with time, our guys started to settle in. A couple of plays and a couple of shots and we were back in it.
Lady Luck was with the Hawks tonight. A big rebound by the Chief goalie and a wide open net and the Hawks were first on the board. Then a two man advantage produced a 2-0 lead. And then it was time to hold on and wait. Our goaltender stood on his head, keeping shot after shot out of the net.
You knew it couldn't stay this way. The Hawks found themselves in penalty trouble and the Chiefs pounced. 2-1. Pulling their goalie the clock wound down, a Hawk break, and an empty net goal. 3-1. The Chiefs weren't done though. 3-2, with 28 seconds left. The Hawks gave a final burst and controlled the game enough to run out the clock for a well-deserved win
