Hello HAWKS fans!
The Novice Black team kicked off their season against the
Hamilton Huskies on Sunday, Sept 24. It was a scorcher outside and everyone had
their fingers crossed for a sizzling start on the ice. There was plenty of
hustle and heart from every player despite a 10-1 loss to the Huskies.
The Huskies struck first and often keeping the boys on their toes. Thanks to the strong performance of Marcus Fernandes, who had some incredible saves, the HAWKS were able to stay in the game with several scoring opportunities.
The HAWKS ended up hitting the scoreboard on a play started from their own zone. Jaxson Belbeck was able to find a streaking Jackson Shewchuk. Shewchuk pulled away from the Huskies defenders and slipped it by the net minder with seconds left in the 2nd period for our first goal of the season! Way to go Jackson!
The HAWKS created a few scoring chances in the 3rd but could not put another past the Huskies goalie. Every HAWKS player hustled and played hard but ultimately lost to a strong Hamilton team.
The HAWKS next game is OCT 1 vs the Burlington Bulldogs at 4 pm at the Aldershot Arena.
Look forward to seeing all at the rink cheering the HAWKS on for their first win of the season! With strong veterans and eager new additions, there is no doubt the upcoming season will be an exciting one.
