WHAT A WEEKEND!
The HAWKS travelled up to the KING FALL CLASSIC this weekend, playing in the FRIGID Nobleton arena.

First game was against the Terriers of Orillia.  The boys played well but did not bring their “A” game to this one falling 3-1.  SHEWCHUK scored our only goal.

Second game of the tourney saw the HAWKS face the 45’s from Brampton. This game was total domination for the HAWKS taking out the team from Brampton 14-0 giving them a huge boost!  There is a long list of goals so here we go: SHEWCHUK (HAT TRICK), ARMSTRONG (2), MCLEOD (2), GALVAO, PESSOA, POWER, O’BRIEN, GILLIES, WHYTE and GARDNER. Fernandez was solid between the pipes collecting his first shutout of the season!!!  If I missed anyone, I am sorry!!!!  Hard keeping track when everyone was making it to the net and I think we stopped counting at one point.

After the game the boys were able to head back to the pool where a Belly Flop contest took place, KNOWLES walked away with the title and a red stomach!  Other than that it was a pretty boring night at the pool……right? OH BOY!

The HAWKS had a single game on Saturday playing the host team King City Rebellion. The boys got out to the lead and held on throughout, building on the lead as the game progressed. Goals were scored by GALVAO (2), SHEWCHUK, WHYTE and PESSOA. Matheson was strong between the pipes getting her first shutout of the season!!! The HAWKS finished round robin play with a record of 2 wins and 1 loss, GF of 20 and GA 3.  That was good enough to earn the #2 seed going into the next round. GREAT JOB HAWKS! Saturday night was filled with pizza and pool time.  Thanks coaches and dads for being good sports and happily jumping in fully dressed!

The morning Sunday game saw a rematch of Saturday’s game. The Hawks were able to score early on a goal by BELBECK, but King City was able to notch the equalizer soon after that. It was a 1-1 tie when GILLIES was set in on a breakaway and the King City defense had no other option than to haul him down forcing the ref to call a penalty shot. GILLIES calmly skated toward the King City net minder and blew it past him top shelf on the blocker side and that was the goal the HAWKS needed to get them fired up.

HAWKS could not seem to stay out of the box but that did not seem to slow them down because 3 SH goals were the result. With SHEWCHUK getting 2, GILLIES the other giving him the second Hat Trick of the tourney. A great effort from all the HAWKS for a 6-1 final score.

Off to the finals the HAWKS go!!! It was a rematch with the Terriers from Orillia and boy did we want revenge.  SHEWCHUK opened the scoring for the boys and the HAWKS jumped out to an early 1 to 0 lead. Orillia was able to tie the game up and then go ahead, but our HAWKS fought back to tie it at 2 with a goal from GILLIES. We pushed hard to get that lead again but it never game as Orillia was able to score 2 more times and an empty net goal with time winding down they took the game 5-2.

A great weekend was had by the team and you can see the chemistry growing. This was a positive weekend for our HAWKS and a sign of things to come. Special thanks to Nicki for organizing the pizza night, thanks to John for providing the boys with their gifts as well! Great job by Mark/Mike/Matt/John for showing the boys how to have a good time on and off the ice.  Encouraging team bonding and ensuring all were having fun off the ice and working hard at game time!
